You would think that your home is a place of refuge and comfort, but the EPA reports that indoor air pollution is one of the top five environmental health hazards. All sorts of air-borne pollutants are present even inside your home. Some of these known offenders are particulate matters are known allergens such as pollen, dust, pet dander, smoke, mold, et cetera and others are gaseous elements such as exhaust fumes and gaseous emissions from different seemingly safe household items. To ensure the safety of the air you breathe inside your own home, room air purifiers must be installed.
Some room air purifiers are installed in-duct and thus work in connection with the air cleansing in different parts of the home. There are also room air purifiers that are portable and can be moved from one room to another depending on your need and preference. This is the natural option for homes that do not have central heating. There are different room air purifiers which can each cater to the removal of certain types of pollutants. For example, conventional mechanical filters work best at getting rid of particulate matter. If you are more concerned about gaseous contaminants, gas-phase filters are recommended. Other room air purifiers available on the market besides air filters are ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) room air cleaners, photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) room air cleaners, and ozone generators. The UVGI products target biological pollutants such as bacteria and viruses. PCO room air purifiers convert gaseous pollutants into harmless elements.
Meanwhile, ozone generators as room air cleaners are supposed to get rid of all sorts of contaminants, but the service may come with a price. Room air cleaners that produce ozone are reported to be not very effective in eliminating air pollutants and are, in fact, even dangerous to the health. Ozone is a toxic gas that can cause many ailments, ranging in gravity anywhere from mild to serious. Please note that room air purifiers simply help to get rid of harmful elements in the air. Be wary of therapeutic claims. These products do not gear to heal existing ailments. Room air cleaners can help in preventing symptoms, but they do not get rid of the disease. In fact, room air purifiers will have very little effectiveness if a room is not regularly cleaned. Essentially, good hygienic practices, proper ventilation, and a disciplined housekeeping tradition will do more for your wellbeing than the installation of room air purifiers.
